MTe TQ system and battery

What battery does the MTe use?

The MTe uses a TQ 580Wh or 290Wh battery. Only use approved TQ batteries in the MTe.

How long does the MTe battery take to charge?

With the supplied TQ 4A charger, a fully drained battery takes about 3 to 3.5 hours to fully charge. The battery ships partly charged, so charge it fully before your first ride. Only use certified TQ chargers, and never charge the bike while riding it. You cannot turn the system on while the battery is charging.

Can the MTe use a TQ range extender?

Yes, on MTe sizes MD to XL. The TQ HPR Range Extender is not compatible with size SM. It mounts to the down tube water bottle bosses with the FIDLOCK Bike Base (not a standard bottle cage) and needs the FIDLOCK Force Connector and the TQ Range Extender V04 260mm cable. Lock the FIDLOCK tab before riding. When the range extender is plugged into the bike, the charger fills the main battery first and then the range extender. The TQ Range Extender manual has full details.

How do I turn the MTe on and change assist modes?

Short press the button on the top tube display to turn the MTe on, and long press it to turn it off. The battery must be charged for the system to turn on. Use the mode switch on the left side of the handlebar to move between the 3 assist modes. The system shuts off on its own after 30 minutes without moving.

How do I use walk assist on the MTe?

With both wheels on the ground and the bike stopped, press the UP button on the remote for more than half a second, release it, then press and hold UP again. Walk assist only works while you hold the button.

How do I connect my phone to the MTe and update firmware?

Download the TQ E-Bike app, turn on Bluetooth, and connect to your MTe. System updates and customization are done in the TQ E-Bike app. The TQ E-Bike support site has step-by-step instructions.

Where do I find my MTe serial number?

The easiest way is to pair your MTe with the TQ E-Bike app and look under bike info. The serial number QR code is also on the inside of the frame, behind the drive unit guard. See Find your Yeti serial number.

Are the MTe electronics waterproof?

The TQ battery is waterproof, but do not submerge the MTe or spray the electronics directly. Do not power wash the bearings, hardware, or seals. If the battery is damaged, do not charge, ride with, or ship it.

Can I service the MTe's electrical parts myself?

No. Have the TQ system serviced by a certified mechanic at an authorized Yeti dealer. Use the Yeti dealer locator to find the nearest one.

Can I take my MTe on a plane?

Check your airline's and local regulations before you fly. E-bike batteries are often larger than airlines allow, and rules vary.

How do I recycle or dispose of my MTe battery?

Do not put the MTe battery or electronics in household trash. In the US and Canada, recycle e-bike batteries through Call2Recycle; your dealer can help. US dealers charge a $15 battery recycling fee at purchase, and Canadian dealers charge $5 to $15 CAD depending on the province, to fund the program. Outside the US and Canada, follow your local e-bike battery recycling rules.

MTe adjustments and compatibility

How do I adjust the leverage rate on the MTe?

The MTe comes with two leverage rate chip sets: 12/25% and 14.4/22.8%. Rearward chip positions are more progressive and forward positions are less progressive. To change it, support the rear wheel, remove the lower shock bolt, reposition or swap the chips, and reinstall the bolt with a little blue Loctite. The Yeti shock setup page has more about leverage rates.

Can I run the MTe as a mullet (27.5" rear wheel)?

Yes. The MTe has a flip chip at the seat stay and rocker connection for a 29" or 27.5" rear wheel, and the geometry stays the same in both positions.

Can I use an angle-adjust or reach-adjust headset on the MTe?

Yes. The MTe uses a ZS44/ZS56 zero stack headset and fits aftermarket angle-adjust headsets up to +1 or -1 degree and reach-adjust headsets up to +5 or -5mm. Adjustable headsets are not included with MTe bikes or framesets.

What fork does the MTe use?

The MTe geometry is built around a 160mm fork with a 576mm axle-to-crown. The maximum fork axle-to-crown is 595mm.

What chainring fits the MTe?

The MTe only accepts a 32T or 34T round chainring, on a 55mm chainline.

What is the longest dropper post I can run on the MTe?

The MTe has an uninterrupted seat tube, so you can run a long dropper as long as the post is above its minimum insertion mark and your tire and saddle do not touch at full compression. The MTe owner's manual lists maximum insertion depth and minimum saddle height by size, and your local Yeti dealer can help you choose.

What sag should I run on the MTe?

Use the Yeti shock setup calculator for MTe sag, shock settings, and tire pressure. Set sag at your normal riding weight with your gear on.

MTe warranty

What is the warranty on the MTe?

The MTe frame has a lifetime manufacturer's warranty against defects for the original purchaser from an authorized Yeti Cycles dealer. Paint and finish are covered for 1 year. Yeti will repair or replace, at its discretion, any frame it finds defective. To use the warranty, register your bike online at yeticycles.com and take it to an authorized Yeti Cycles dealer for processing. The warranty does not cover ordinary wear and tear, neglect, or intentional damage. See the Yeti Cycles Warranty for full terms.
