MT adjustments
Why would I adjust the leverage rate on the MT?
The MT has a leverage rate flip chip on the lower shock mount, so you can tune the suspension feel to your riding style and terrain. The stock setting is 15%, which is the best place to start. Experiment to find what works for you. The Yeti shock setup page has more about leverage rates, and the MT owner's manual explains how to change the chip.
Can I use an angle-adjust or reach-adjust headset on the MT?
Yes. The MT uses a ZS44/ZS56 zero stack headset and fits aftermarket angle-adjust headsets up to +1 or -1 degree and reach-adjust headsets up to +5 or -5mm. Adjustable headsets are not included with MT bikes or framesets. Any adjustment beyond these limits is not approved and voids the warranty.
Can I convert the MT to a mullet (27.5" rear wheel)?
It is possible, but Yeti does not recommend it. Unlike the LT, the MT has no rear wheel flip chip, so a 27.5" rear wheel lowers the bottom bracket too much and slackens the head tube and seat tube angles. If those changes suit your riding style, it is your call.
MT frame and part compatibility
What size seat post and seat collar does the MT use?
The MT uses a 31.6mm seat post and a 36.4mm seat collar.
What is the longest travel dropper post I can run on the MT?
The longest MT dropper post depends mostly on your inseam. The MT has an uninterrupted seat tube, so you can run any travel as long as the post is above its minimum insertion mark, your tire does not rub your saddle, and the dropper does not bottom out in the frame. The MT owner's manual lists maximum insertion depth and minimum saddle height by size, and your local Yeti dealer can help you choose.
What travel fork is the MT designed to use?
The MT is designed for a 160mm travel fork. Yeti tested the MT frame to 20mm over the spec fork, so you can run up to a 180mm fork. The maximum axle-to-crown measurement is 598mm.
- A longer fork slackens the head tube and seat tube angles and raises the bottom bracket.
- A shorter fork steepens the head tube and seat tube angles and lowers the bottom bracket.
Can I run a dual crown fork on the MT?
No. The MT was not designed for a dual crown fork.
What headset does the MT use?
The MT uses a ZS44/ZS56 tapered zero stack headset.
What rear wheel axle fits on my MT?
The MT works only with SRAM's Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) axle at 12 x 148mm spacing. The axle is 172mm long with an M12 x 1.0 thread pitch. This axle only fits frames designed for the Universal Derailleur Hanger.
What cranks and bottom bracket can I use on the MT?
The MT uses a BSA 73mm threaded bottom bracket and is compatible only with wide q-factor cranks. Shimano, SRAM, and RaceFace cranks fit; other brands need a fit check.
What chainline and chainring size fit the MT?
The MT was designed around a 55mm Boost chainline and fits chainrings from 28T to 34T round.
Does the MT have ISCG mounts?
Yes. The MT has integrated ISCG '05 mounts. The MT works best with low-profile modern chain guides; some older guides with larger upper guides may not fit. Always fit-check a specific chain guide before riding.
How big a rear rotor fits on the MT?
The MT runs a 180mm rear rotor without a brake adaptor. With a brake adaptor, the MT fits up to a 220mm rear rotor.
How big a tire can I fit on the MT?
The MT fits tires up to 2.6" wide. Actual tire sizes vary by manufacturer, so clearance can differ between brands.
Can I fit a water bottle inside the MT front triangle?
Yes. The MT fits a standard water bottle inside the front triangle with a piggyback shock. A side-entry cage gives the easiest access.
Does the MT have in-frame storage?
Yes. The MT has an integrated storage compartment with a latching door, with room for tools, flat repair gear, snacks, gloves, and light layers. The MT owner's manual explains how to adjust the door latch.
Does the MT accommodate a tracking device?
Yes. The MT has a holder in the lower down tube access port for an Apple AirTag or Tile Sticker (2020 or 2022 model). The MT owner's manual has installation steps.
Is there a frame protection kit for the MT?
No. Yeti does not offer a frame protection kit for the MT. Yeti recommends RideWrap frame protection for the MT.
MT suspension setup
What shock does the MT use?
The MT uses a 185 x 55mm trunnion-mount rear shock. Some shocks can be locked out, but Yeti recommends running the MT shock fully open for the best compliance and traction.
What shock hardware does the MT use?
The MT uses a standard trunnion mount at the top and M8 x 40mm hardware at the bottom. The lower mount holds the adjustable leverage rate chip.
Can I put a coil shock on the MT?
Yes. The MT works with both air and coil shocks. With a coil shock, Yeti suggests a higher leverage rate chip setting, because coil shocks usually work best at higher leverage rates.
What sag should I run on the MT?
Start the MT at 30% sag, which is 16.5mm of shock stroke, for the best pedaling efficiency and terrain compliance. Set sag at your normal riding weight with your gear on. You can go slightly above or below 30% to suit your preference. The Yeti shock setup calculator gives starting settings for your shock.
What is Sixfinity and does it need maintenance?
Sixfinity is the MT's patented 6-bar suspension platform; the Yeti Sixfinity page explains how it works. Sixfinity uses links that rotate on fully sealed bearings, with floating collet and bearing assemblies at the pivots. Check the whole bike monthly for loose bolts, including the Sixfinity links. Bearing service intervals depend on climate, trail conditions, and how often you ride. Your local Yeti dealer can service the bearings.
MT parts, upgrades, and warranty
Can I upgrade the components on my MT?
Yes. Many aftermarket parts fit the MT, and parts from major brands like Fox, Shimano, and SRAM are largely standardized. Have a professional mechanic confirm each part matches the MT's standards and mounts securely without interference or play. Check the fit before riding.
Can I replace or modify Yeti frame parts on my MT?
Use only genuine Yeti replacement frame parts on the MT. You can get them from your local Yeti dealer or the Yeti webstore. Yeti cannot verify that aftermarket frame parts are safe on its frames. If any MT frame part is modified or replaced with a non-Yeti part, all warranties are void and the customer assumes all liability.
What is the warranty on the MT?
The MT frame has a lifetime manufacturer's warranty against defects for the original purchaser from an authorized Yeti Cycles dealer. Paint and finish are covered for 1 year. Yeti will repair or replace, at its discretion, any frame it finds defective. To use the warranty, register your bike online at yeticycles.com and take it to an authorized Yeti Cycles dealer for processing. The warranty does not cover ordinary wear and tear, neglect, or intentional damage. See the Yeti Cycles Warranty for full terms.
